On August 25, 2003, I was working late at an office I had in Campbell, California and a big electrical storm started; so I ran out to the Los Gatos Creek Trail for my first try at photographing lightning. I was shooting at the areas of the sky that seemed to produce the most lightning and just leaving the shutter open for 30 seconds for each shot. This huge bolt came down just as the shutter was about to close. It seemed to have struck the ground in the Diablo Range to the east in an area north of Mt. Hamilton. The next morning, smoke from a wildfire was boiling up from that same spot.
